Why you should NEVER skip a professional dental cleaning!

We are always telling our customers to brush and floss their teeth regularly in order to prevent tooth and gum problems, which effectively means fewer visits to the dentist, but if there’s one visit to your dentist or dental hygienist that we would strongly encourage, it’s to have a professional dental cleaning!

All our efforts to help you look after your oral health are wasted if you have allowed your teeth to become armored with layers of calculus (calcified plaque known as tartar), which have cemented on to your gum line.

Calculus is so hard in its consistency that neither flossing, brushing or interdental cleaners can remove it. It also acts as a barrier to the absorption of any topical solution you apply. So all the wonderful vitamins and minerals that are present in our all-natural tooth powder will be having a lot less of an effect on helping the state of your oral health. The only way to remove calculus is to have a dental cleaning!

What happens during a dental cleaning?

Your dentist or dental hygienist will usually use an ultrasonic power scaler as well as manually manipulated metal implements to scrape away the plaque and tartar that have cemented onto the gum line and between the teeth. You’ll hear and feel scraping sensations as the tartar is removed.

Once your teeth have become tartar-free, your dental hygienist will usually finish off by applying a gritty toothpaste to a high-powered electric brush to give your teeth a thorough clean and will remove any leftover debris of plaque or tartar. This power polishing technique will leave your teeth feeling very smooth and shiny.

Among other topical treatments and a professional flossing that is likely to be included in your dental cleaning, you can rest assured that your mouth would have endured a much-needed makeover that will give you a clean surface when starting your tooth and gum regimen.

With your gums’ newly restored ability to absorb nutrients from beneficial, topical treatments such as Good-Gums, you will start to see significant improvements in your gum health.

We know it’s not the most fun way to spend the best part of an hour, but a regular dental cleaning is essential if you want to see the most progress from your gum care practices.

We recommend having a professional dental cleaning every 6 months. Now, that’s not so bad, is it?
